PM Hun Manet Announces New Alcohol Advertising Management Team

Phnom Penh: Prime Minister Hun Manet has approved the formation of a new Alcohol Advertising Management Team, as detailed in a decision dated June 6, 2024, and released to the public on July 23, 2024. This team, composed of four ministers and five other members, is tasked with overseeing the regulation of alcohol advertising in Cambodia.

Minister of Information Mr. Neth Pheaktra will chair the team, with Minister of Commerce Ms. Cham Nimol, Minister of Health Mr. Chheang Ra, and Minister of Industry, Science, Technology, and Innovation Mr. Hem Vandy serving as vice chairpersons. The team also includes:

- Mr. Huy Vannak, Secretary of State of the Office of the Council of Ministers

- Mr. Oum Mara, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Interior

- Mr. Hab Touch, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts

- Mr. Liv Sophanarith, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications

- Mr. But Bovuth, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Information

The Alcohol Advertising Management Team is charged with developing and implementing strategic measures to regulate alcohol advertising, ensuring consumer protection, promoting fair competition, and maintaining aesthetic and safety standards in advertising.

During the last Plenary Meeting of the Council of Ministers, Prime Minister Hun Manet emphasized the importance of reviewing alcohol advertisements, particularly billboards in public places, and implementing appropriate restrictions to help reduce traffic accidents caused by drunk driving.

Furthermore, the Prime Minister instructed the Ministry of Information to collaborate with the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Commerce to establish a specific code of conduct for alcohol advertising, aiming to foster a safer and more responsible advertising environment.
